Lawless World

In preparation for my holiday I was reading a bit the history of central america, it becomes clear to me that the Americans (ie USA) have always been interferring idiots (I am fighting to keep my rage under control). I'll write something later about this.

Anyway I digress my literary trail lead me to Philippe Sands QC book "Lawless World". It describes the history of International Law, and how in the last few years Americans have retracted from a large number of their international responsibilities. It lays out exhaustively the approach that the US has taken towards trying to bend the laws and in the end just breaking them. Invasion of Iraq, guantanamo bay detainees, kyoto protocol, the list is long and shameful. What comes through more than anything else is there ineptitude, and the don't give a fuck attitude they have to the rest of the world.
I'm beginning to think Hugo Chavez is right.
Silly pictures of George W. Bush are not funny any more.
The guy is not inept and bumbling (well he is but the people controlling him aren't). The actions of his presidency have not been done from a lack of understanding of the rest of the world. They have been calculated to maximise and maintain USA as the foremost nation on the planet, irrespective of what a shitheap the planet turns into. And all to serve the elite few who pull the strings.

Richmond Parking charges

I just got really annoyed at the higher parking thing message board on MSN,grrr so many idiots in the world, if I had a pound for the number of timesI read "humble motorists", "4x4s not a gas guzzler","no evidence of globalwarming","nanny state" arrrrrrrgh it makes me soooo mad.
I did some research (http://www.smmtco2.co.uk/co2search2.asp) and found that a Porsche Cayenne (like that -->) generates 361g/km of CO2, a 5 door 1.8l VW golf produces 233 g/km. That is not a vehicle its a WMD.
They are all idiots, I wish I could jet off into space and watch the lookon their faces when the penny finaly drops, "oops" they say, "we fucked up the planet.................................."."They" in this case are the 4x4 driving richmonders who drive the100metres between their house and the prep school, George W Bush & nearlyall his hillbilly hick nation, the Australians, OPEC, Two Jags Prescott,oh I can't go on.....

Well since I'm deciding to dust off the old blog, thought I should give it a bit of a make over. Or in this case I think you might agree its a make under.
A darker time requires a darker perspective, no more draw-a-pig amusements from here on in.

Tidal Bore

I have been known to bang on ad nauseum about the tidal range of the Thames at Richmond, to the extent that people are willing to throw themselves to the mercy of the river to escape further discourse.
Anyway now I have photographic evidence and as they say the camera never lies. so here you go. The River Thames flooding:

The horizontal rail you see is a hand rail and normally the river is about 1.5 - 2 metres below the towpath at this point.

Blowfish

a guy here at work, Andy, got an email from his friend who lives in Japan (he's the one who sends the strange pictures of doggies, which I sometimes forward). The guy is six foot seven, so stands out from the crowd in japan. Well the email said he was going to one of the best restuarants in Tokyo for a Pufferfish supper. Now parts of the pufferfish are highly poisonous, the toxin is 60 times more deadly than cyanide! 60% of people poisoned by eating the fish die. So the chefs have years of training and are very closely monitored to ensure they remove all the poisoned parts.
Anyway we spent a few minutes looking at stories about this on the internet yesterday.
Then Andy got a phone call from the guy who had just woken up in hospital. It seems that 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant he collapsed and passed out, he was rushed to hospital (it took 5 japanese guys to lift him) and he was put on a drip and being treated for poisoning. It seems he survived, but it was touch and go.
